Rex Aukerman Scholarship Fund

The Rex Aukerman Scholarship Fund was established four years ago to provide financial assistance for graduates scholar athletes of Fairborn High School. The award was also founded to honor the late Rex Aukerman, a well known and respected civic and educational leader in the Fairborn community for many years. Rex served as a teacher and coach at Fairborn High School between 1968 and 1990 while also serving on the school board from 1990-1994. His efforts have directly influenced the lives of hundreds of Fairborn’s young men and women throughout many decades.

Unfortunately, this great man was taken from us in March of 1999 following a tough battle with cancer. Through the efforts of family, friends and generous businesses in the Fairborn area, a memorial scholarship fund was founded, awarding $1,500 annually to a graduating senior who has demonstrated exceptional academic and athletic achievement. Fundraising has also led to the renovation of the Fariborn High School track facilities which were recently ranked in the top five facilities East of the Mississippi River as well as the Rex Aukerman Relays, a high profile track meet held annually in mid-April which brings hundreds of high school athletes and their families from the surrounding area to compete in this premier event. The majority of the funding arises from an annual golf tournament and outdoor picnic and pig roast. The scholarship committee, however, continually seeks contributions from local businesses, not only to keep the scholarship viable but also with anticipation of expanding the size and number of awards in the future. Donations are tax-deductible and are visibly and vocally acknowledged at all fundraising events. Any and all contributions are welcome whether it be gift certificates, goods, services or monetary donations. Businesses benefit not only from the direct visibility they receive at events, but also as being perceived as community oriented.
